Key Skills Analysis 2

Key Skills Analysis Term 2

One area I felt that I needed to improve and work on last term was my stamina. This is where you meet the demands of the environment and push yourself through the tiredness. I have worked on my stamina by using the high knees exercise, slowly increasing the intensity and duration of this exercise and really focusing on pushing through when feeling tired. One thing I think I have discovered whilst doing this exercise is that stamina is all about inner discipline and by creating this discipline for myself, I have managed to work through even the hardest days. By doing this exercise, this has helped my cardio respitory endurance, meaning that it has improved the way my body utilises and circulates oxygen. This ultimately means that I have trained my cardio respitory system to withstand higher levels of intensity.

An area I would like to improve on is my flexibility. This is the range of movement in a joint. Flexibility is a key skill in dance and I feel like I need to improve how flexible I am, so I can effectively achieve different moves when dancing. One exercise I think will help improve my flexibility in dance is by practising Rob’s jazz warm up [that focuses on our legs] four times a week. This includes a seated forward fold with both legs parallel, a seated forward fold with one knee bent outwards with our foot touching our knee [then repeated on the other side], a seated forward fold over one leg when the other is in back attitude [which is then repeated on the other side]. By repeating these exercises regularly, this will allow my body to become desensitised to the stretch as the sensation in my muscle is not providing new or useful information. By consistently stretching four times a week, my brain will start to minimise the things my body has to react to. This decreases the pain felt which means I am able to stretch further and further.
