Analysis of physical skills applied in SIX

One strength I would say that I can execute confidently and effectively is coordination. This is where the mind and the body are connected to achieve simultaneous movements. The way I execute this is, when rehearsing I slow each movement down and focus my attention on each muscle group used in each separate movement. Slowing each movement down allows me to integrate multiple movements simultaneously and meticulously. I pay attention to small details and focus on “anchor points” in the dance to help execute it effectively. This helps me learn what movement comes after the other and when I perform it to an audience, I will have learnt how to tune into my body to perform with “muscle memory”. When rehearsing, I focus on how my body feels when transitioning from one movement to the other. This helps me connect my mind with my body and fall into an almost meditative state whilst directing my attention to each muscle group used in each movement and noticing what feels natural when performing each movement smoothly to seem relaxed and coordinated.

An area that I think I could improve on is my stamina. This is where you meet the demands of the environment and keep going and push through the tiredness. One area in SIX where I need a lot of stamina is the opening number “Ex-Wives”. There are multiple dance breaks in this number which are extremely physically demanding. This dance number requires a lot of stamina, especially because it is around six minutes long. One way I could improve my stamina is by performing a “high knees” exercise. This will help me improve my stamina because I will be working whilst my heart rate is elevated. If I repeat these exercises three times weekly, increasing the amount of rounds by two each time will help increase my stamina.  This will help me improve the way my cardio respiratory system works, therefore increasing my stamina.
